"Against a Crooked Sky"
In the film, "Against a Crooked Sky," I played the Indian princess, Ashkea, who went against her father and entire tribe to save the life of her best friend (a white girl) who had been captured and was sentenced to death. Ashkea wore her friend's clothing on the day of the execution, and sacrificed her own life in place of her friend's. Ironically, the executioner was Ashkea's brother, who unknowingly took the life of his beloved sister.

In this photo I'm watching the Chief, my father, sentence my best friend, a white girl, to her death. I'm crying because I could feel her pain, and I couldn't bare the crude, barbaric ways of my people. I began trying to figure out how I could save her by putting myself in her place at the execution.
